FAQs / Tips

What is Heirlooming?
Heirlooming is the process of professionally cleaning, pressing and packaging your gown in a way that will protect it and preserve it beautifully for decades. Heirlooming requires very meticulous attention to detail, as well as very specialized knowledge, skills and equipment. When done properly, your heirloomed gown will look as if it has never been worn. However, if done improperly (or by an unqualified cleaner) your gown can be permanently damaged and ruined in seconds.

Why choose Chism’s?

EXPERIENCE: Chism’s Bridal Cleaners has specialized in preservation and heir looming of wedding gowns for over 30 years.

TRAINING: Our people have been trained to give your gown the finest in care and attention.

RELEASES: Chism’s doesn’t require garment releases before working on your gown.

Gown care tips

  1. Most stains found in wedding gowns can be successfully removed if cleaned within 10 days of wearing. Many stains common to wedding gowns such as wine, soft drinks, cake frosting, and alcohol will caramelize and become permanent if not cleaned promptly. Stains due to perspiration and other common soils may need to be neutralized before weakening the fabrics.

  2. Stain removal should never be attempted at home. Many stains will be permanently set if exposed to household-type cleaners, detergent, or even water. The best chance for successful stain removal is to leave the stain alone, and have the gown promptly and professionally cleaned.

  3. Before and after your gown has been heirloomed, it is best to store the gown in cool, dry environment. Basement and attic storage is discouraged.
Do not be afraid to fold your dress for transportation to Chism’s Bridal Cleaners. Any wrinkles will be removed in the heirlooming process.
